A message from the Roman Pope
Posted by Chris T. on Tuesday, April 8th, 2008
As most of you know, the Bishop of Rome is coming to the United States in a week or so for a visit to Washington and New York, saying Masses in both cities and speaking before the United Nations.
The Vatican released a video message from him to the people of the United States today:
Benedict offers his hope that his visit will be seen as "a fraternal gesture to every ecclesial community". He also offers some kind words (in Spanish!) for young Spanish-speaking Roman Catholics and for the sick.
It's short and worth a listen. Here is the transcript, with a tip of the biretta to Rocco.

May the Bishop of Rome find his visit to the United States filled with a greater welcome than LGBT folk receive in his Church, a greater dignity than women find in seeking to serve in Roman holy orders, and a greater acceptance for his differences than many have felt who have dissented from Rome.
Maybe one day some of our Independent Bishops will get a chance to make an ecumenical visit to the Vatican State as a fraternal or “sororal” gesture. Oh, is there religious freedom in the Vatican City State, I honestly don’t even know? Maybe we can start an independent/Old Catholic mission there?
Heh. I wouldn’t be incredibly surprised if one of our forebears had celebrated a clandestine Mass at some crypt altar somewhere. It sounds like something our Indie brethren and sistren might do.
It sounds like a field trip to me.
