Womanpriest in Boston
Chris T. on Jul 31st 2006
Rocco mentions in a recent post that an official of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston has resigned (use BugMeNot for a passwd) after revealing she was one of the women ordained to the priesthood on July 25, 2005 in St. Lawrence Seaway.
Much of what the Roman Catholic Womenpriests organization seems to be doing mirrors [...]
Prayer cards
Chris T. on Jul 30th 2006
Following my ordination, we have a number of extra prayer cards. They have an icon of Mary Magdalene announcing the resurrection on one side, and a prayer with the date of my ordination on the other side. (They look like this.)
If you’d like one, please email me your address and I’ll be happy to send [...]
More info about Independent Catholicism
Chris T. on Jul 30th 2006
Lately when people have asked for a website that explains what Independent Catholicism is, I have felt a little hamstrung. There are some ok sites out there. However, many are written from the perpective of a single jurisdiction, which isn’t helpful because I’m not part of their jurisdiction, and a lot of them are out [...]
Matthew 18 and nothing else?
Chris T. on Jul 27th 2006
I have been promising for a while now to respond to Lee’s concerns about my string of posts following the Episcopal Church’s convention, particularly this one (and comments) on the culture war. Here’s a snippet from that comment (+Tim’s comments in that thread are great, too):
I agree with you that calls for repentance and reform [...]
One book meme
Chris T. on Jul 26th 2006
Ben started a new meme with a post today, and I thought I would pick it up:
1. One book that changed your life:
Linda Alcoff and Elizabeth Potter (eds.), Feminist Epistemologies (1993)
This is a fairly academic work, but it asks some really critical questions about how we know things and how we define (and consequently pursue) [...]
Eucharist in space
Chris T. on Jul 25th 2006
This is too cool:
The first manned landing on the Moon by Apollo XI on 20 July 1969, is one of history’s most significant events. Neil Armstrong’s words, “That’s one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind,” are known by people worldwide. Less well known is what occurred immediately after landing at the Sea [...]
Photos from today
Chris T. on Jul 22nd 2006
Things are finally winding down here after a wonderful service this afternoon, dinner, and conversation with John and my wife. But I thought I would post a link to photos before turning in. Many thanks to everyone who participated in the service and who supported me on this long leg of my spiritual journey.
Ordination
Chris T. on Jul 21st 2006
Friends,
Please keep me in your prayers tomorrow, when I will be ordained to the priesthood. I am very blessed that many friends and family will be coming, as well as several ministers who have had a strong impact on my life. Among those laying hands on me tomorrow will be a Methodist pastor, a UCC [...]
Liturgical customary
Chris T. on Jul 19th 2006
This evening I ran across this liturgical customary of the Church of the Advent in Boston (which Lee of Verbum Ipsum has been attending and blogging about lately). They’re a very high-church Episcopalian parish, and they’ve posted a very detailed site describing their ceremonial.
Many of the details are a bit too high church for me [...]
PFBC Christian liturgy
Chris T. on Jul 17th 2006
By all accounts, the Progressive Faith Blog Con went really, really well. I recommend checking out the conference blog to see links to write-ups by various participants.
Helping put together the Christian liturgy for Sunday morning was especially exciting. As Reb Arthur apparently pointed out during the con, the kinds of worship services that happened over [...]
